Mandatory Moped Preparation Steps

ScooterCrew.com Customers These Steps Are Mandatory for your warranty and safety!!!

Read and follow the instructions below.

Needed items to perform the steps below - Step 1. - Thread Locker or Lock Tight (Loctite), Step 2.- Battery Charger Step 3.- Regular Motor Oil (Regular Motorcycle Grade 10W 30 or 10W 40 during the break in period), Step 4. - Regular Transmission Oil and Tools, Step 5. - Tools, Step 6. - Tire Gage and Access to an Air Compressor. Step 7. - Carburetor Cleaner

Step 1. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Get what is called, "Thread Locker" or "Lock Tight"(Loctite) for your Nuts and Bolts. It is like super glue for your nuts and bolts and can be found at any hardware or auto parts store. The thread locker will insure that your nuts and bolts do not vibrate loose from normal use of your new street legal moped scooter. Take the thread locker and apply it on every nut and bolt on your scooter while you are checking for tightness. The rule of thumb is, "A Dab Will Do You Good". The best method of applying thread locker is to slightly loosen a nut or bolt by 1 turn. Apply a dab of thread locker, tighten nut or bolt and then move on to the next one. The great thing about thread locker is that if you purposly need to loosen a thread locked nut or bolt it will loosen. This first step will ensure that your scooter has a long reliable life. Make sure to semi regularly do a quick once over of your nuts and bolts to ensure tightness. With using the lock tight you will rarely find a loose nut or bolt but it is a good safety precaution to check them once in a while. If you happen to find a loose nut or bolt take the thread locker and apply using the method above.

Step 2. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Charge your battery with a battery charger. This is going to take any where from 2 to 10 hours so start charging the battery while you are still doing the other steps. If you do not have a charger borrow one from a friend (you would be surprised how many people have battery chargers) or buy one at an auto parts or discount store.

Step 3.
- Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - The motor oil Must Be changed Before you even try to start the moped, street bike, or motorcycle. The product comes with what is called "packing oil". This packing oil is not meant to be used in the product. The product needs to be drained and refilled with Motorcycle Grade 10W 30 or 10W 40 regular oil, (non synthetic) while the scooter is in the "break in" period. Using regular non-synthetic motorcycle grade 10W 30 or 10W 40 motor oil will insure the proper break in, best motor performance and allow you to get the highest gas mileage. We highly recommend changing the oil again at 200 miles, again at 500 miles, again at 1000 miles and again at every 1000-3000 miles or once a year which ever comes sooner, there after. At the 500 mile mark we recommend switching from regular non-synthetic motorcycle grade 10W 30 or 10W 40 motor oil to a semi synthetic or completely synthetic motorcycle grade motor oil, as your scooter motor will be properly "broken in". A semi-synthetic or full-synthetic motor oil will allow your scooter to run much smoother. As a rule once you use synthetic motor oil in your scooter "Always use Synthetic motor oil from then on, no exception".

Step 4. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Change the transmission oil. We highly recommend changing the oil again at 200 miles, again at 500 miles, again at 1000 miles and again at every 3000-5000 miles or once a year which ever comes sooner, there after. Use regular transmission oil until the 500 mile mark and then it can be changed to synthetic transmission oil.

Step 5. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Check the chain or belt tightness. Some moped scooter models have a cover over the chain or belt. The chain or belt should be very tight and not give much when you push down on it. If the chain or belt is tight, great. Then just make sure you have lock tight on the axle bolts as well as the chain tightener bolts and you are done. If it ripples, is easy to push down on or is almost falling off, you will want to tighten your chain or belt. In most cases this can be done by loosening the rear axle bolts, tighten the chain tightener bolts (make sure and dab lock tight on them) and then re-tighten the axle bolts (make sure and dab lock tight on them).

Step 6. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Check the air pressure in your tires. Having the proper air pressure in your tires is an easy detail, but will pay off big at the pump by insuring you get the highest gas mileage possible out of your scooter. Checking your tires air pressure regularly will allow you to get the highest gas mileage and the smoothest ride out of your scooter.

Step 7. - Moped Scooters, Street Legal Scooters, Street Bikes, 3 Wheel Mopeds, and Motorcycles - Steps right before starting your scooter.
Step 1. Check to see if all of your fuel lines are connected.

Step 2. Put at least a half of tank of gas into your scooter.
Step 3. Loosen the clamp that holds your air filter and disconnect your air filter. Spray carburetor cleaner into your carburetor. Let the scooter sit for 10 minutes.
Step 4. Now you are ready to try and start your moped scooter.
You will need to turn the key to the on position and also hold in your left brake handle, then push the start button. Use the start button in 5 second bursts. All scooters have a safety system and will not start unless you are holding in the left brake handle.
Step 5.
You may need to repeat step 3. by taking your air filter off and spraying carburetor cleaner into the carburetor. If you need to repeat the carburetor cleaner step you will be able to try and start the scooter right away.
